Filtration Stains - What it is and how to prevent them.

Have you ever noticed those unsightly dark stains that appear along the edges of walls and doorway entries? Perhaps you have noticed them along the edges of stairways.

Filtration stains, also known as filtration soiling, are a type of carpet stain that can be extremely difficult to remove. These stains are caused by dust, dirt, and other pollutants that accumulate along the edges of carpets and underneath closed doors. Over time, this buildup of debris can create dark, unsightly lines that can be nearly impossible to clean up completely. Because of the sheer amount of time, effort, and expense required to remove filtration stains, they are often considered to be permanent. As a result, homeowners and businesses alike often struggle with the frustrating and unsightly appearance of these stubborn stains.

Filtration soiling occurs when the air conditioning or furnace system in a room or space forces air at a higher rate than it can escape through the ventilation ducts. As the air circulates, it collects fine particles of dirt and pollutants. These particles attach themselves to the fibers of the carpet, causing discoloration and creating dark edges along walls and entryways.

As air circulates through your air conditioning system, it undergoes a complex process called Corona Discharge, which charges the air with both negative and positive ions. These ions, which are electrically charged attach themselves to various particles, such as dust, dander, bacteria, and smoke, making them even more difficult to remove. As these ions bond with the fibers of the surfaces they come into contact with, they cause stubborn stains that are extremely difficult to clean.

Can these stains be cleaned? Yes, it's definitely possible to clean them, but it's important to keep in mind that it's a time-consuming and labor-intensive process. You'll need to get down on your knees and scrub the stains with costly cleaning agents that are specially formulated to tackle this type of stain. However, even with the best effort, there is no guarantee that all of the stains will be removed.

At New Life Carpet Care, we provide our customers with realistic expectations regarding the cleaning of carpets with Filtration stains. While we strive to remove as much soil as possible, we cannot guarantee the complete removal of these stubborn stains, however, we have had success in making them less visible. Beware of companies that promise to fully remove Filtration stains as they may resort to bait-and-switch tactics to gain your business. Our commitment is to give you honest and transparent service.

At New Life Carpet Care, we believe that the best way to deal with carpet stains is to educate our customers on how to prevent them in the first place. The key to avoiding filtration stains is to regularly change your air filters every 3 to 4 months. If your HVAC system is old or if you have recently had renovation work done in your home, it's a good idea to consider getting your air ducts cleaned. Additionally, vacuuming regularly with special attention to edges and corners can help prevent dirt and dust buildup. By following these simple steps, you can keep your carpets looking fresh and clean for longer.
